Critics Consensus

Baskin complements its gory thrills with heavy atmosphere and deliberate pacing, adding up to a horror outing that plays with the mind as enthusiastically as it ruins the appetite.

Alexandra Heller-Nicholas 4:3 Baskin at its heart both reveals and revels in the self-defeating, inescapable rituals of masculinity, and the visceral, inescapable horrors that can accompany them. Rated: 9/10 Aug 25, 2018 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Stylishly mounted, well paced, with clever use of flashbacks, and written with panache. Rated: 4/5 Oct 10, 2016 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) For all the mortified, mottled flesh and salacious shots of butcher's equipment, Baskin is just not very frightening. Rated: 2/5 Jul 17, 2016 Full Review Jason Shawhan Nashville Scene Can Evrenol's film would make for a great double feature with Tales From the Hood, if you were looking to center your sense of overwhelming horror in latex and goo on screen and not in real life flesh and blood. Sep 10, 2021 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants Baskin's not for the squeamish - it has the courage of its malignant convictions, and it will maim, mark, and molest those last little pockets of good thoughts left inside of you, laugh slash squealing like a stuck pig the whole wee wee way home Jul 2, 2021 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts It kind of goes with the fly-on-the-wall type setup, it has a lot of interesting camerawork. Anthony H Other than the foreign perspective of a Turkish horror film, I found it completely unoriginal. I won't complain about watching a van scene where the occupants sing along to the radio for an entire song, because, Turks? Who knows. I was fortunate to be able to ff past the slow bits, like when we watch for well over a minute while the antagonist sloooowly enters and takes his seat. Would not recommend. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/24 Full Review Chelsea T camera shots were interesting. the story is lacking a bit and leaves me asking about of whys. it went from kind of boring to kind of woah mid way. also, the "leader" was not terrifying in the least... appeared to be an over grown baby with calm demeanor and a padlock necklace. the film isn't scary but has disturbing images. and no one explained the heathen birthed rock taken up the spiral staircase. overall- lots of holes and not very scary. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review Jeffrey P Third time starting this, subtitles, finally got through it. Alot of dialogue to this, but things don't really get interesting until the last 30 minutes or so and by then it's too late. Not much nuance, reason, or rhyme to what is happening in this torture horror. Whatever they spent making this was too much. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Diamond W This film is impressive. In a nutshell, it is about tuff-guy cops getting trapped in a nightmarish hellhole where they cannot perform, survive or "call for back-up". It's about people who think they have the world on a string, but are actually, themselves, dangling from a thread. It starts out spooky and ends completely bonkers. By the end it becomes clear that the eternal fears that haunt the mind from birth, despite the little victories, are coming back. A closed loop. The monster never really dies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/08/23 Full Review Alex C I really enjoyed, acting was great. Really awesome villain, you are forced to question what's actually going on and it's up to you really what you think the ends means. That's what makes this film interesting, I would recommend ! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Tyler B The vulgar and Gore take away from the overall horror but the villain whom resembles "hellraisers - pinhead" makes this film memorable.
