Udita Jhunjhunwala Firstpost Batla House feels burdened by its patriotic ambitions and by repetition. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 19, 2019 Full Review Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express John Abraham is strictly one-note, which may be how dour cops are meant to come off, but it becomes same-same in a screenplay stretched to show off a well-muscled chest. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 19, 2019 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion The film is firmly on the side of the beleaguered cops and it makes its point with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Which is why Batla House will satisfy John Abraham fans. Those biceps were not made for nuances. Aug 16, 2019 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad annavetticadgoes2themovies Batla House openly [uses] the language of 'them' and 'us' - literally - with regard to Muslims. Rated: 1.5 Dec 6, 2020 Full Review Musanna Ahmed Film Inquiry Overall, a thrilling core narrative and star leading performances are enough to overcome Batla House's inconsistent ideology and garrulous climax. Sep 14, 2019 Full Review Shilpa Jamkhandikar Reuters The director's unwillingness to question the ethical practices of the Indian police makes "Batla House" a one-sided story. Pooran S A good engaging movie based on a real life incident. A look at a high pressure encounter & its after effects . Good casting overall . Covers a lot of important topics some direct , some implied & does so without being preachy . Found it quite gripping for most parts including the effort & how it affects the mental health of policemen in high pressure jobs which we at times don't acknowledge & it does not shy away from uncomfortable topics. Few personal favourite scenes are the interplay between the upright police officer played well by John Abraham & his superiors, the visit to & chase scene of Nizampur...whew what action !, the tense pre-capture scene of the accused to Nepal, the investigation report scene & the courtroom drama. Worth a watch . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review Carol S Brilliantly crafted film, even if people think it's a story that's been distorted. It has a story to tell and that, it does. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/04/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting true story with an end that is worth the wait. The movie keeps you guessing what actually happened until a certain point, and John Abraham's acting takes center stage. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member The film is based on actual police encounter of four Indian Mujahideen Terrorists in 2008. The film's best feature is its daring to be politically incorrect and show how concepts of democracy and secularism are misused in Indian politics. It also showcases the separatist mindset of a section of India's muslims. Obviously this film has been targeted by liberals and leftists who think talking about Islamic terrorism spreads Islamophobia. We need more films like these which expose those people who provide intellectual support to terrorists and shield them from law and justice. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolute great movie must watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The good news about 'Batla House' is it's gripping directorial consistency: Nikhil Advani doesn't carry the weight of patriotic indulgence of Abhishek Sharma who cast Abraham as a crucial character in Parmanu, and he doesn't have the overwrought over simplicity and obvious blandness of the blank filmmaker Milap Zaveri. His thrilling chase scenes have been mightily shot. Abraham delivers more than his expressionless face can, which is sometimes to a fault. But overall the film remains just passable, because the screenplay still wants to click on rousing buttons. The competent storyteller and compelling plot needed a bit more. Perhaps a better lead.
