S. R. Praveen The Hindu For a film branded as a “gaming thriller”, Bazooka ends up as a dull film with barely an exciting passage of play that is worthy of the star it is supposedly celebrating. Apr 10, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

arvind s Bazooka is the third Mammootty movie in a row that has managed to dent his otherwise phenomenal (recent) filmography. We should actually call Bazooka a Gautham Vasudev Menon movie as he is front and center. Mammootty just steps in as a narrator for the most part, and then takes over in the final 10-15 minutes. Is this a rant? Most definitely yes! Directorial debut by Deeno Dennis (who has also written this), Bazooka is about Benjamin Joshua, a police officer who is stumped by the series of robberies in Kochi. When he is left with no choice, he calls in John Caesar, a forensic expert to help crack the case. There are a lot of issues that plague this film. First and foremost is marketing it as a Mammootty starrer - Don't deceive the audience by doing that! Secondly, the climax that everyone is being raving about - yes, there is a twist but one can see it coming from a mile away. And the transformation or performance in the said climax isn't all that great. And don't even get me started about that silly/ridiculous cameo! Then comes the casting bit. There are a lot of side characters, who you would recognise from other movies. These actors are good, but seeing them reduced to mere caricatures was a pain and I feel this is a trend that Malayalam cinema needs to stop. The graphics are atrocious and the dialogues cringey and clichéd at times. Performance-wise, there is nothing to rave about. GVM plays his usual self. Mammootty deserves better. Hakkim Shajahan is miscast and Sidharth Bharthan is underutilised. Bazooka is quite confusing. There is a lot going and it seems very out of place and illogical. And when it all unravels, you begin to question - why the hell was this movie made like this? What did they even intend to do/show here? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Read all reviews
