Photoplayvideo This movie was ridiculously stupid! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Implausibility #1. Her parents know their just departed house guest is mentally unstable, but go for an overnight stay in the city leaving their daughter alone n their isolated beach house. Implausibility #2. She knows the house guest may be a killer, but chooses not to go with her parents and then goes to bed leaving a door unlocked. This phycological thriller left me on the edge of my seat but the plot defects bothered me. Not uncommon in otherwise excellent movies. Doesn't anyone edit the final version? Very often the screenwriters have a good plot and synopsis but the devil is in the details. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member engaging psychological thriller from a promising first-time director. great performances (especially from willa fitzgerald and murray bartlett), beautiful cinematography, and an interesting script taking on timeless themes from an unexpected point of view. i found this film particularly impressive given it was an ultra low budget feature which made the most of one setting and a tiny cast. check it out if you're a fan of vintage foreign films, polanski, or hitchcock. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Jason Saltiel's debut film is a tense, nuanced experience. Willa Fitzgerald and Murray Bartlett deliver captivating performances in this slow-burning psychological sexual thriller. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Beach House's compelling performances and cinematography cast a spell on the audience who become invested in a plot that actually requires critical thinking. The narrative grabs you, the suspense keeps you on edge, and you find yourself talking about this film for days. It's an eerily fascinating film that highly entertains without giving in to the current trend of providing easy answers and formulaic plots. Susan Wloszczyna RogerEbert.com Saltiel's conclusion feels ultimately preposterous and somewhat unsatisfying. Rated: 2/4 Jun 24, 2018 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews For me, Beach House is a near-miss. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 22, 2018 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times There's an interesting idea at its core that it never commits to, and Saltiel can't fully execute what he does try to explore. Jun 20, 2018 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall Definitely marks Saltiel as a filmmaker to watch. Rated: 3/5 Jun 20, 2018 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com While "Beach House" connects in small amounts, it's frustrating to watch the movie remain so passive with screen elements that demand a robust directorial imagination. Rated: C Jun 20, 2018 Full Review Chuck Foster Film Threat Beach House has all the makings of great low-budget horror: limited cast, isolation and a somewhat plausible variable. Sadly, these elements get lost in messy camerawork and a mundane screenplay. Rated: 3/10 Jun 18, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
