Mike Hale New York Times The Lifetime Beaches is a reduction of the original - smaller emotions, smaller performances, fewer songs, shorter running time (about 87 minutes versus 123) - and while that could have been an improvement, it's not. Jan 20, 2017 Full Review Meredith Blake Los Angeles Times You may be moved by Menzel's characteristically volcanic rendition of "Wind Beneath My Wings." More likely, you'll just cry from boredom. Jan 20, 2017 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com Menzel's singing... does provide compensation for wading through the melodrama, although frankly, DVR-ing and zapping to those parts would be the more time-effective option. Jan 20, 2017 Full Review Lara Zarum Flavorwire A freeze-dried remake that'll leave you wistful for the fresh taste of the original. Feb 1, 2017 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Salt Lake Tribune Menzel has a spectacular voice. But ... she's not Bette Midler. And Beaches without Midler is just not the same thing. It's just not as good. Jan 20, 2017 Full Review Ed Bark Uncle Barky Lifetime's re-do of Beaches provides a suitably weepy, sometimes sappy, overall entertaining escape. Rated: B- Jan 19, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Avery R Beaches is a charming remake of the classic film that starred Bette Midler and in her place Idina Menzel played a better version of C. C. Bloom! I love the new songs and the classic ones are just perfect! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/24 Full Review SkyRo P The remake of the movie "Beaches" starring Nia Long and Idina Menzel was a charming film, although it lacked in major character development. The acting by Nia and Idina was decent, but the storyline felt a bit off at times, especially with lines like, "I'm rich. I could buy a heart." The daughter, Tori, portrayed by a young actress with limited skills, failed to evoke any real emotion when her mother passed away. It felt like she was just a selfish character throughout the movie. The mother-daughter relationship lacked depth and bonding, making it hard to connect with the characters on an emotional level. The saving grace of the film was the great music and fantastic singing, but overall, it fell short as a bland remake that didn't live up to the potential of the original. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/06/24 Full Review Olga B Bland, that is the best I can describe this movie. None of the characters had chemistry at all. Starting with the young versions of the main characters. It didn’t have emotion transmitted throughout the dialogues. Great actresses like Nia Long, could not make it happen. A true shame. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/24 Full Review William R I thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt even with the original being such a sappy classic. Idina Mendel has an amazing voice, however, I was barely able hold back my vomit. The dialogue was stilted, the jokes missed every mark as if they were trying, all the bits lifted from the original would have been more natural if done by the dead. Horrible HOrrible HORrible HORRible HORRIble HORRIBle HORRIBLe HORRIBLE HHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIBBBBBLLLLLEEEE. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/08/22 Full Review Audience Member Never having seen the original I really liked it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It was the worst movie I have ever watched. If you're going to remake a classic like Beaches you had better make it better than the original or don't bother. You wasted your money and my time on this one!!!
