      Critics Consensus

Bean boasts a terrifically talented physical comedian in the title role, but his constant mugging and silly slapstick quickly wear thin.

Igor S This is a classic. For newer audiences, Bean may be considered outdated in terms of comedy and/or may make much sense plot wise, but that's what makes it so good: it's silliness. You almost have to look at it through the eyes of a child, otherwise, you may find it boring or too silly. I used to watch this in the early 2000's with my then brother in law and we would cry laughing, time and time again. I have watched it again today and the person i watched it with let out 1 or 2 small, contained laughs. Honestly, instead of feeling bad about it, it made it even more funny to me. I feel like that's how most people will feel about this movie: either they will love it or hate it/find it ridiculous. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Theemuis 1 i love this movie, absolute must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Rami A Mr. Bean was only good enough as a show, not as a film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Jeffrey M Bean is an amazing movie. I have to admit, this movie has a lot of flaws. There is not a very clear plot, the focus switches to Mr. Bean ( should I say Doctor Bean ), and all entertainment you get is literally only on Rowan Akinson. Fortunately, he takes this very well. If you just focus on Mr. Bean, then you would have a great time watching this like me. Mr. Bean saved this movie from being boring. What an amazing movie. I give this a 81%. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Nizar N Hilarious, especially that no one other than Mr. Bean can pull off this "silly" humor and still be funny. There are several sarcastic comments and witty references. Bean is a movie that never gets old. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/20/23 Full Review Beliam M The Slapstick may get old quickly but Atkinson delivers a hilarious part and lives up to the role he played that made us laugh our hear out years ago Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Brandon Judell indieWire How many English language films can say, "To hell with America!"? Very few. Basically only "Bean", which has already racked up over $100 million before the picture has even unspooled in one New Jersey mall. Jun 12, 2018 Full Review Mike Clark USA Today We'll forgive England for the Spice Girls. Maybe even Benny Hill, Joan Collins, Boy George, Fergie and that habit of pouring milk in tea. But with Bean's arrival, it might mean war. In a feature film, directed by Mel Smith, the schtick is overkill. Rated: C Jan 10, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Atkinson isn't afraid to use a few of his best skits from the original show in this theatrical venture, but he adds enough new elements to be thoroughly fresh. Rated: 7/10 Sep 10, 2020 Full Review Rob Nelson Boston Phoenix Atkinson's reactive brand of bug-eyed and near-silent comedy has always been more akin to Jacques Tati--plus a lecherous pinch of Jerry Lewis, the better to invade the viewer's personal space.
