      Consumer Beautiful, perfect film
. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/03/23 Full Review Fred F For me, one of the most moving and sentimental films of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A gem of the Golden Age of Hollywood. A story of Love and Bravery. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Murty C This is a childish picturization of a childish story. The problem is that the plot is about rich Britishers with fantasies about the French Foreign Legion and desert life, and the movie delivers on this premise. Everything is so clean! Even the scene of a massacre! And the sergeant never seems to work on his threats to the troops, which does not add to his villainous character. There is a romantic subplot too, which could have been safely omitted to strengthen the plot. Gary Cooper was adequate but not particularly impressive, and the same can be said of everyone else. Pretty boys playing antiseptic games - that's the impression I got about the movie. Come to think of it, I found the flashbacks to the childhood of the three brothers to be the best part of the film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/29/22 Full Review steve d Strong action but not that different from the original. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Boneyard L This delightful film has the spirit of adventure all through. It's the preeminent French Foreign Legion film, with a curious mystery constantly looming in the background. The whole movie has an old-timey feel, which is not bad but is an acquired taste. It's not as epic and timeless as something like Lawrence of Arabia, though by focusing on a band of three brothers it keeps the story and stakes relatable. If you like old adventure movies, definitely check this one out. Closest comparison: It's like Treasure of the Sierra Madre by way of Lawrence of Arabia.
