Jonathan K I honestly don’t know what this short film was about. Like, I get that it's about a group of men going to Turkey for hair transplants -- solid premise with potential for real emotional weight -- but beyond that? No clue. At one point, there’s something about it being 2001, and suddenly spots open up for transplants... possibly because of some vague tragedy where other men died? Which is an odd plot detail to introduce and not explain. And some weird fog rolls into town too? It's all pretty confusing narratively. That said, the film does nail a certain kind of middle-aged male sadness. The quiet, despondent, “maybe a full head of hair will fix me” kind. The issues with self-image, confidence, maybe their relationships... all of that comes through. It’s just that the "what actually happens in this movie" kind of escapes me. So yeah. I didn’t get it, but it was fine I guess. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review matthias s *Beautiful Men* is a slick, stylish short with stunning animation and a sharp sense of humor. The voice cast is top-tier, bringing real charm to characters who feel distinct despite the brief runtime. The film nails the balance between comedy and insecurity, making the brotherhood at its core feel genuine. It’s always exciting to see someone from your hometown get an Oscar nod, and this one earns it. The world-building is so strong that I’d love to see a full-length version. 3.5 stars—impressive work that’s funny, heartfelt, and visually striking in just a few minutes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Yash B "Beautiful Men" deserves credit because it taps into a real insecurity that many men face in their adult lives. I found the premise touching and think it will be a relatable situation for many. That being said, I wish the film dived deeper into the relationship of the three brothers and had a more emotionally resonant ending. I do feel what is presented is good, and the short film format works for it, but maybe a few extra minutes could have improved the film even more. Overall, I thought it was okay and was mostly impressed with the animation. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
