Crowe is called upon to do not much more than stare solicitously at the heavens, from where inspiration duly arrives, to the accompaniment of some predictably celestial music. Go to Full Review

Director Ron Howard has loosened up enough to imbue the project with a jangled-nerve approach that paradoxically allows us to feel like both observers and participants in Nash’s never-ending struggles with his own mind. Go to Full Review

When I think of the phrase “Oscar bait,” an expression I’m honestly not fond of, Ron Howard’s A Beautiful Mind is the first movie I always think of. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 Dec 25 This is one of those films that’s easy to watch and easy to admire, yet slightly distant once it’s over. It’s solid, well made, and anchored by a strong central performance, but it never fully breaks through on an emotional level. You’re engaged, you follow the journey, but a certain coldness lingers beneath the surface. Russell Crowe carries the film with a restrained, detailed performance built on small gestures rather than grand statements. He gives credibility to a character that could easily have slipped into simplification. His work is the film’s emotional backbone and the main reason it holds together so well. Ron Howard’s direction is clear, classical, and carefully structured. Everything is explained, ordered, and accessible, which makes the film smooth and watchable but also a bit too controlled. The moments that truly resonate are those that allow ambiguity and discomfort to creep in, when the story briefly lets go of its formula. Also the movie felt less of a documentary and more of an action movie i do not believe it does justice to the story of the real person. Should've been a documentary.
