Edward M Good movie. Loved the psychological side of it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Thomas S One of the best unexpected films I've seen in a long time. The plot line and trailer doesn't do it justice. What seems to be another horror mystery film turns out to be a journey taking you through the incidents of Ben. We follow his life finding out what happened and what then happens, where he gains his power to take control of his surroundings, as he then encounters zombies, heroines, and things from the other realm. That, without any spoilers, is the tip of the ice berg, as it gets deep, which all makes sense watching it to the end. A superb haunting performance by Kaelin Stockwell who plays Ben. He just grows on you. Acting is all so natural, that at first you forget it is a film and start following his life. Maybe it's the style it is filmed in. It just gets your attention and takes you on this journey from one event to another. I didn't get bored or lose interest as I was taken on a journey I didn't know where I was going, completely captivated, taken on turns and twists ending up at the surprise destination! Great performances all round. With Ernesto D'Alessio resembling a young Tyrone Power. Angela his sister played by Kristen Barrett, Jerry, his best friend by Benjamin Chamberlain, and the personality, Jubilee, by Leila Garza. A very special unique independent film, not following the usual formula. Very much under rated. I'd give it a go! I loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A kind of interesting film and story Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Charles E The effects are low-budget, the acting is amateurish, the plot is heavy on jump-scares--and yet, I watched "Beautiful Prison" all the way to its sadistic end. Despite all of its flaws, this movie also manages to be quite entertaining. I can't quite explain it, but I'll try anyway. I should preface this by noting that like most movies, some portion entirely depends upon the viewer's mood going in. This is no Oscar winning film by far, but for me at least, "Beautiful Prison" does have do an admirable job at creating atmosphere; it has a cerebral, retro vibe to it, making you feel like you are six years old old again, and all of the adults have left the room, leaving you all alone, oblivious to the fact that a horror movie has started up, Now you are caught in its grasp. Weird, surreal stuff occurs all throughout the movie (part of the plot design), and although, the critic in you can dismiss what you see as contrived and you may sneer at the special effects, another part of you, the child within, cannot look away and is going to have nightmares for a week.
