Kate Erbland indieWire Gans isn't especially concerned with the outcome this coupling, instead reveling in overwrought and often bloated storytelling, lush details and some of the year's most unnerving CGI. Rated: C- Jan 2, 2017 Full Review Leah Pickett Chicago Reader This 2014 adaptation of the French fairy tale looks spectacular, with vibrant landscapes and lavish 18th-century costumes, but... [Léa Seydoux, as the fair maiden, and Vincent Cassell] are stiff and perfunctory. Oct 27, 2016 Full Review Steve Davis Austin Chronicle It's beastly. Rated: 1.5/5 Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review When Gans locks in on his leads, Beauty and the Beast soars like few other live-action fairy tale movies have in recent years. Apr 28, 2020 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed ... its scenery is stunning, the costumes making it worth a few watches along. It's worth seeing but may cause some issues to those looking for a deeper story ... Rated: 3/5 Apr 19, 2020 Full Review Sarah Musnicky Legion of Leia at Vital Thrills It's definitely a movie meant to entertain and astound the senses visually. Audience Member I love this movie, the clothes are magnificent, the visual effects are great and it's a great rereading of the book, it's just a bit slow, but I particularly like it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Jacklyn W I enjoyed the concept of how Belle learns of the Beasts history. Magical healing orbs were not a bad concept at all. It seems very French… In terms of the fashion and architecture. It is magnificent, but in terms of how the story and plot was directed, it was quite quick. It seems like it missed a really pivotal moment, allowing beauty and the beast to actually create a meaningful connection. Instead, it goes or are you gonna kill me? Or You gonna give me a ring? The adaptation of how he became, the beast was the most confusing part, though. Out of every single storytelling of beauty and the beast, this one made the least amount of sense. The ending also put more blame to Belle being the main reason the Beast is even killed. And then while there is a literal fight happens they take their sweet time professing their undying love??? I do not want to spoil anything else, but it is definitely not top of the list for beauty and the beast renditions. Also, can we talk about the dogs….. Anyways, give it a watch, but in terms of timeline and plot, it was lacking a lot. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/30/24 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful Movie sadly the Romance is badly written.Could have been way better Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/21/24 Full Review Connie H I so loved this movie, was played out differently than Disney beauty and the beast but I definitely loved the movie and would definitely watch it again and recommend it to others Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Matías D Visually stunning. It feels like watching an actual old fairy tale. There's much more magic here than in the latest live action Disney version. It's only problem: we need more time showing the evolution of the relationship between the two main characters. Their love doesn't feel earned. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review karen w i enjoyed it alot. depends on the person watching it. not the same story over again but a little different Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
