Kate Erbland IndieWire Gans isn't especially concerned with the outcome this coupling, instead reveling in overwrought and often bloated storytelling, lush details and some of the year's most unnerving CGI. Rated: C- Jan 2, 2017 Full Review Leah Pickett Chicago Reader This 2014 adaptation of the French fairy tale looks spectacular, with vibrant landscapes and lavish 18th-century costumes, but... [Léa Seydoux, as the fair maiden, and Vincent Cassell] are stiff and perfunctory. Oct 27, 2016 Full Review Steve Davis Austin Chronicle It's beastly. Rated: 1.5/5 Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review When Gans locks in on his leads, Beauty and the Beast soars like few other live-action fairy tale movies have in recent years. Apr 28, 2020 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed ... its scenery is stunning, the costumes making it worth a few watches along. It's worth seeing but may cause some issues to those looking for a deeper story ... Rated: 3/5 Apr 19, 2020 Full Review Sarah Musnicky Legion of Leia at Vital Thrills It's definitely a movie meant to entertain and astound the senses visually. Corrina W I thought this was by far the best telling of this story. The visuals were powerful and striking. The only characters I did not care for were the two sisters. They were not realist and very shallow. The rest was great! If you like this story, this movie is a must see! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review Patricia S It was wild and cringe. The relationship between Belle and Bete was absent and not explored. The CGI was unfathomably awkward, but the little big-eyed dogs were cute. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Farah R The spectacular visuals and breathtaking costume design are wasted on a story that fails to portray the curse-breaking love of Beauty and the Beast adequately. The Beast's tenderness never overshadows his creepiness as he watches Belle sleep, and her rebuke of his beastliness doesn't suggest any affection. They also got a little too carried away in the ending. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review Tyfanie B The best adaptation of the beauty and the beast I have seen! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie, the clothes are magnificent, the visual effects are great and it's a great rereading of the book, it's just a bit slow, but I particularly like it.
