John B Good action movie with a great cast that puts you in the middle of a war torn country and the political battles that go on among friends & families in desperate times. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Gareth v A clever thriller that has it's flaws but is carried by the perfectly cast Hamm. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review mark d Definitely a bit Le Carre, tropes all over the place.. Gilroy wrote it '91 and i feel it would have been better if I hadn't seen Homeland, The Little Drummer Girl and The Bourne films..However the atmosphere, the sense of a world gone to hell and the even handed telling of history combined with a solid performance from Hamm..I really liked it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/23 Full Review Kevin S This movie was only interesting because of the way it weaved a fictional tale into the complex historical realities of post-war Beirut. That was the most compelling aspect of this film, and the storyline seemed secondary. John Hamm appears to be an alcoholic in every role he plays, so there is that too. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/20/22 Full Review georgan g A bit too long & complicated for me. This had good acting & writing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jelisije j A very good straight forward movie about a broken man who must return to the country that gave him his best and worst memories in life and must forgo all of that to save the life of his best friend in the volcanic political headache of Beirut. Robert Daniels 812filmreviews But while the philosophy of Beirut is lacking, the film is generally entertaining. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Demetrios Matheou London Evening Standard Tony Gilroy's script is intricate and intelligent, with an appropriately cynical view of US foreign relations. And Hamm makes hay with his best role since Mad Men. Rated: 4/5 Aug 20, 2018 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) An enjoyably pacey spy picture, unfolding against the backdrop of a country that has imploded. Rated: 4/5 Aug 12, 2018 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Responsible for penning the likes of Michael Clayton and the Matt Damon Bourne series, writer Tony Gilroy adds more intrigue to his resume with this tense drama. Rated: 3/4 Aug 10, 2021 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Allows Hamm's now trademarked Damaged Man Routine(TM) to stay front and centre. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Jason Fraley WTOP (Washington, D.C.) After years as Don Draper, Jon Hamm shows a new side as a U.S. diplomat in Tony Gilroy's intricate political thriller.
