DanTheMan 2 Spending the last couple of weeks rewatching the original Ben 10 has been a proper nostalgia trip. Growing up with the series back in the day, it's been nice to revisit it and rediscover why I loved it so, from Ben and Gwen's bickering to Grandpa Max's life lessons, Ben 10 was more than just watching a ten-year-old boy kick bad guy butt. I did eventually tune out of the franchise during Ultimate Alien but I still hold strong memories from watching the show on TV. They really don't make them like they used to anymore, Cartoon Network movies were an event back in the day and Secret of the Omnitrix was one of the first ones I saw alongside Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo. Despite some dated aspects in its dialogue which are very early 2000s, I don't know anyone who uses words like Doofus or Dweeb and stuff like that but when the film opens with a CG Omnitrix title card set to an orchestral rendition of the main theme, it hits hard. Secret of the Omnitrix does so much in just an hour, although it can feel like it's just an extended episode, the animation, music, voice acting and writing are all top-notch. Whether you view this as the series finale or the premiere of Season 4, it still captures the heart that made the show so compelling to begin with, just on a space-venturing scale. Also Ben just yeeting Vilgax into space at the end will never not be funny. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This effectively epitomizes everything that the original Ben 10 series was about - action, high stakes and humour. For kids who used to/ still watch the series, this is golden. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
