Sheila O'Malley The Dissolve Lowell shows great sensitivity in creating that collective mood, and expressing it through a large, diverse ensemble. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 17, 2014 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Any interesting comment or funny remark must have happened off-camera. Nov 13, 2014 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Scenes flirt with clich, yet the writing has spark (one very funny sequence cuts among radically different interpretations of the previous night's revelries), and Tim Naylor's photography is pretty. Nov 13, 2014 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie compared to other low-budget indie dramas, Beside Still Waters is distinctive, and not just because of its choice to shoot on celluloid. Rated: 7/10 Jun 11, 2019 Full Review Pat Padua Spectrum Culture This could be a satire of an entitled generation if the characters weren't so vapid. Rated: 2/5 Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue ... manages some amusing moments and shows flashes of visual flair along the way, but it treads familiar territory with scenarios that gradually feel more contrived than authentic. Audience Member It shouldn't work, but it almost does thanks to a couple of solid performances. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member starting off with the title coming at you, it's indie at it's worst. This is just an excuse of a movie "Oh yeah, I've made a movie, yup it's really cool" the plot is bland and generic, you don't feel for any characters, just another coming of age movie trying to be the next Breakfast Club Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Beside Still Waters grows a bit choppy in the third act, but like the best ensemble films the ensemble itself is enough of a reason to travel these rough narrative waters. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Sitting in that grey area between feature-length and short-film, Beside Still Water is a thoughtful, yet doesn't manage to evoke the sympathy for any of the underdeveloped characters. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it! Just wish the ending had been a little different. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this film. It's got depth, but at the same time it'll make you laugh out loud. 'Beside Still Waters' is an interesting look at how friendships and relationships change from childhood to adulthood, as well as an examination of nostalgia and grief. While all the characters are certainly flawed with a capital "F," that's what makes them compelling, and, ultimately, what makes this a great film.
