Lucy Standbridge (Aubrey Plaza) has inherited her father's publishing house, and the ambitious would-be editor has nearly sunk it with failing titles. She discovers she is owed a book by Harris Shaw (Michael Caine), a reclusive, cantankerous, booze-addled author who originally put the company on the map decades earlier. This movie was extremely well written and directed. The story is plausible and the scenarios are convincing. The brilliance in this movie are all the curveballs and twists that you just don't see coming. It is heart wrenching, funny, irreverent, embarrassing and delightful. It builds logically and intelligently until you are so engrossed that you are sure that you know about what is going to happen next. You are going to be wrong.... Anyone who has rated this movie poorly has only watched the trailer. The 'Best Sellers' movie is excellent! MGKamau

Um tanto longo e entendiante, porém profundo e subjetivo, relacionamentos mal resolvidos tendem a gerar problemas insolucionáveis com o passar do tempo, tempo esse, considerado perdido… Michael Caine adorável como um idoso ranzinza mal-humorado, roteiro gostosinho, embora mais lento do que devesse ser, com plot twist tendencioso, porém satisfatório, dando uma quebrada no ritmo lento… Uma comédia dramática cult, com contorno saudosista, e cheirinho de antiquado, e crítica ao instangramável...

Damned with faint praise: it wasn't a waste of time. Plot was just so so and probably the weakest part. Plaza was good, I thought, but Caine was really good. It could have slipped into cliche for an elderly actor to play a crotchety old man but he pulled it off. He would have been forgiven for mailing it in, but he didn't. Do my take: two actors making the best of what was handed to them.
