Ellen Wong
It's a useful index of Ellen Wong's talent and charm that many people came out of Edgar Wright's 2010 comedy "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" convinced that Scott (Michael Cera) should have simply chosen Ellen's character, Knives Chau, rather than going to the trouble of battling all Ramona's (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) evil ex-boyfriends. It's rare for any young actress to make such a strong impression with a supporting role, but Ellen worked hard for the part, auditioning three times as part of an international talent search before she landed it. Director Wright was eventually won over after he discovered the angelic-looking Ellen had a green belt in Taekwondo; during rehearsals, the film's fight co-coordinator was so impressed by her martial arts skills he nicknamed the actress "The Ellen-nator." Born in Toronto, Ontario to parents of Cambodian descent, Ellen started working in Canadian television at the age of 14. After her debut film role in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," her next major project was the Canadian action drama "Combat Hospital," a war series set in Afghanistan in which she played Major Suzy Chao. In 2012, she appeared in a lead role opposite Donal Logue and Malcolm McDowell in the Christmas-themed horror movie "Silent Night," utilizing her martial arts skills against a homicidal maniac dressed as Santa Claus. Her breakthrough role on American television came in 2013 with "The Carrie Diaries," the prequel to the phenomenally popular series "Sex and the City" on which she plays Jill 'Mouse' Chen, the whip-smart best friend of AnnaSophia Robb's young Carrie Bradshaw.
