In this fact-based film, Canadian doctor Norman Bethune (Donald Sutherland) embarks on an incredible decades-long journey across the globe using unconventional medical methods to heal those in need. He travels to Russia, Spain and even Mount Wutai in China, where he helps build hospitals and train medical staff. All the while, his tumultuous relationship with his wife, Frances (Helen Mirren), is tested again and again by his excessive drinking, womanizing and constant travel.

Audience Member It's an inspirational story with an exceptional cast - but I'd love to get my hands on an even earlier version which was filmed in the Betamax format. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Easily the biggest cinematic epic ever to come out of Canada, it's a very diffictult film to see, due to a prolonged battle over the film's final cut (the director's cut was a half hour longer than the theatrical version). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the greatest film out there. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
