Tara Brady Irish Times ... Better Watch Out is a delightfully nasty seasonal inversion, replete with carollers, decorations, themed jumpers and booze. Rated: 3/5 Dec 11, 2017 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) A Yule-themed comedy horror that is neither funny, nor particularly horrifying, Better Watch Out feels like a malicious spin on Home Alone. Jay W These are the type of characters they set up in the opening scene of a slasher film only to be killed off to show how frightening the killer is. There is not a character worth rooting for in the film. The only reason to root for one over the other is because one is so immensely despicable, it makes the rest seem tolerable by comparison. The movie is thoroughly unpleasant to watch. Once the movie gets going, I just tensely sit waiting for it to end. I understand that these are all intentional decisions. The movie is meant to be unpleasant. For those who like it, they'll love it. If you think a darker more psychotic "Home Alone" with a babysitter, then go ahead and watch. Don't watch the trailer, it gives it all away. You could see it, but if you do, You Better Watch Out. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Jeremy A This is much less Christmas and more fun horror. 4* Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Mark J Worth giving a watch, starts off with an obvious twist (if it was meant to be a twist) but the escalation is a bit more unexpected. If you are a fan of horror/gore where it’s not to heavy this is a good movie for you. Not too Christmassy, a good one if you want to start early with your Christmas films. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Ashley M What was suppose to be a crazy plot twist was given away at the beginning of the movie with one simple sentence said by one of the main characters: "We go forward with the plan." The movie was far too predictable from that point on. It's your typical story where the "good boy" kid you root for turns out to be not only the bully of the friend group, but also your classic psychopath. The movie features easter eggs from Home Alone and uses them in twisted ways to add more of a horror element but ultimately fails to reach said goal. All in all this movie plays on the perverted fairytale of what appears to be a 12 year olds crush on his babysitter but seems to have more to do with feelings towards his mother. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Alec C Christmas has been known as a time of cheer, but this season is full of carnage. As a babysitter watches over a disturbed child, she find herself in over her head as violence ensues with a festive spirit. Despite the dark undertone, this Christmas killing spree manages to keep us entertained with its memorable characters and comedic timing! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Davey C I liked how it was parodying Home Alone but if it was a slasher instead of a Christmas movie. But I didn't like how psycho Lucas was trying to kill all of Ashley's boyfriend her and his best friend. What makes it not a 1 star is I liked the ending. At the beginning I wasn't really interested. I didn't get why we needed this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
