Dedicated young doctor Randall "Red" Adams (Van Johnson) politely fends off the romantic attention of wealthy socialite Ruth Edley (Marilyn Maxwell) at a charity fundraiser. During the party, Red notices that nightclub singer Edna (Gloria DeHaven) is exhibiting unusual symptoms that he is only able to correctly diagnose with the help of Ruth's female intuition. Meanwhile, Red accidentally misdiagnoses hospital operator Sally (Marie Blake), causing her sudden illness to worsen dramatically.
