Comprehensibility does not appear to be one of this writer/director's goals, but if someone is able to help Cosmatos marshal his raw visual talent, I'll be first in line to see his second film.

Beyond The Black Rainbow is probably what comes to mind when people express their distaste for artsy, experimental films. They’re not all created equal and if you don’t have a clear idea of what you’re going for your movie ends up formless, directionless and dull. The set up had me intrigued and I was keen to see where it was going to go. Turns out, it wasn’t really going anywhere, and it did so very slowly. There are solid minutes of characters walking slowly along corridors lit by, but the looks of it, Dario Argento. I was pretty much checked out. The story is paper thin, so its obvious the director’s mind was more focused on imagery than narrative. Credit to him, the imagery is incredible, but not enough reason is given for us to put up with it. I’m glad the director would go on to make Mandy, a vast improvement on his directorial debut, which seems more concerned with attracting arthouse praise than being an entertaining film.

You definitely need to be in a unique headspace to enjoy this, but wow... you're in for a treat if you are. Haunting soundtrack paired with trippy visuals, absolutely loved it

The story has a dreamlike quality that's a bit elusive (or weird and senseless) at times but the visuals are stunning! Definitely worth checking out. Panos Cosmatos is one of my fav Directors.

Interesting aesthetics and visuals. Doomy, slow-paced scenes are very well made. The black-and-white scene from '1966' segment just killed me.
