Critics Consensus

Lazily crafted and light on substance, The Big Bounce takes few chances and strands its promising cast in a subpar adaptation that fails to do its source material justice.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Missing: this movie's plot. Rated: 2/5 Dec 28, 2010 Full Review Simon Braund Empire Magazine It's sexy, offbeat fun for the most part, but it's way too laid-back for its own good and, in the end, obstinately refuses to be anything more than the sum of its highly promising parts. Rated: 3/5 May 14, 2004 Full Review Ed Gonzalez City Pages, Minneapolis/St. Paul Best approached as a Come to Hawaii advertisement with a wisecracking Wilson as your happy tour guide. Feb 5, 2004 Full Review Mark Halverson Sacramento News & Review Rated: 1/5 Aug 7, 2008 Full Review Betsy Bozdech DVDJournal.com The main flaw ... is that it never really seems to get going; like laid-back 'hero' Jack Ryan (Owen Wilson), the movie seems happy to drift along and just see what happens. Gary B Funny movie I'm patiala to owen Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Audience Member The worst acting ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review steve d Should have been called the Big Flop. Not a single laugh to be had, and a terrible script. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Smart and funny. Some of Owen Wilson's best work. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I can't believe I'm rating a movie with such talented actor/ess in it so low but this movie didn't utilize their talents IMO to their full potential. The attempt at a twist in the plot of the story was weak and too predictable. I enjoyed it but I believe it could've been better Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Maybe it's my larcenous heart and weakness for hot chicks in bikinis, but I liked this movie a lot more than most of the people posting reviews. How can you not like a domino game featuring Morgan Freeman, Harry Dean Stanton, and Willie Nelson? The plot meanders as pleasantly as a slack-key guitar recital with a pay-off as gentle as a trade breeze through palm trees. Mahalo. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
