Henry Hart (Arye Gross) is a young gay artist living in New York City. When his grandfather has a stroke, Henry puts his career on hold and returns home to the small town of Big Eden, Montana, to care for him. While there, Henry hopes to strike up a romance with Dean Stewart (Tim DeKay), his high-school best friend for whom he still has feelings. But he's surprised when he finds that Pike (Eric Schweig), a quiet Native American who owns the local general store, may have a crush on him.

What's subversive about it is that it looks just like any other romantic comedy except that some men love other men. Imagine that: social justice, racial harmony, peaceable kingdoms, and a cup of cappuccino at the general store.

A nice little movie, a fairy tale of sorts and not entirely believable, but working with small budget the director and writer have pulled off a cozy movie that's warm and ingratiating. Rising artist returns to home town and encounters the boy, now grown man with kids, he has carried the torch for for years. It's a cliche situation in straight movies, but here it mostly works. I liked the casting. No Hollywood hunks in the leads. Just actors who could pass as ordinary people.

Yes, it is cheesy and campy, but it's a romance movie, and that's why we watch them. This is my favorite romance movie, this beautiful small country community coming together to support each other, with the main characters all finding love and acceptance with who you are. slightly slow but life in a small town often is <3 great movie, very progressive and heartwarming

I have been wanting a 90's gay rom com, and this movie (released in 2000) gets pretty close to being that, although it leans more towards drama than comedy. This movie has a lot of charm, Which I think comes from the supporting cast of characters, who are all gay-friendly old white people - very surprising on a first viewing, but after which you can appreciate how sweet and important these characters are to making Big Eden feel like, well, an Eden.
