Allan C An affable cast almost makes this college-set retelling of Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" worth watching. Writer and star Allan Katz plays the hunchback, "Bob," who's been hiding at a California university for years, and when he's discovered, the psychology department has one month to prove he's not dangerous or else he'll get locked up. Tom Skerritt and Cindy Williams are probably the biggest names in the film as two of the professors who try to rehabilitate Bob, along with rival professor Jessica Harper, who's convinced Bob is a danger, but the main characters are a boyfriend and girlfriend who befriend Bob. The most fascinating bit of casting is Melora Hardin as the girlfriend and object of Bob's affection, who is best known for playing Jan on THE OFFICE. She's quite likable, and it's fascinating to see Jan as a young 80s Brat Packer of sorts. Corey Parker plays the boyfriend, and the entire cast is likable, but the script is not funny, which makes it kind of a chore to watch. Originally planned as a theatrical release, I now understand why the studio chose to make it a direct-to-video release instead.  Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Cinephile F This gem was shown at the New Beverly. It is a fantastic grind house film. I loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Robert H I love this movie, it is one of my favorites of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Gwenn D I honestly loved this movie! I can't remember how I happened upon it, but I am so glad I did. Years later and I still quote lines from it. If you like funny movies that have similar comedic vibes as Young Frankenstein or other Mel Brooks movies, then I think you'll love this movie too. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I watched it in the cinima when it came out. Thought it was a take on the hunchback of Notre Dame. Couldn't stop laughing and misses some of the lines. Ended up sitting thru it 5 more times. I can still see the rescue party of dogs. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member A very funny movie that begs to be watched again and again. There are times tho I wonder if Bob isn't related to B5s Zatrhras. "Diane Gerard: What's this? Bob Maloogaloogaloogaloogalooga: Dress. Dr. Webster: And who wears the dress? Bob Maloogaloogaloogaloogalooga: Pope.
