Christopher S This documentary film captures what most humans long for, namely, meaningful connections alongside the need to give and receive deep caring. The bond between the otter Molly and Billy the caregiver is genuinely remarkable and moving. Billy’s partner is so empathetic and supportive. The narration restores my hope that humans are still able to authentically demonstrate our better natures. The Shetland shepherd Jade is also a lovely example of commitment, loyalty and love. Finally, the film is exquisitely well shot. Nature in its stunning glory is captured to perfection. In other words, the cinematography of the sea and land (Shetland) is something to behold and revel in. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Daniel S This was a cute documentary. Worth the time to stream. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Kevin B A heart felt film that will have you laughing, crying and smiling. Reminded me of my octopus teacher. Highly recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Barb S Very heartwarming. A must see!💕 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Anonymous D Beautifully shot, short, poignant and tender. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Sota S “Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story” viewed on Hulu, is a very quaint, strongly endearing, and notable National Geographic nature documentary film. This NatGeo movie’s cinema filmography in the Scotland Shetland Islands is visually stunning, especially the overview aerial and underwater sequences, mixed with pretty solid home video and an impressive and impactful story narration, by Billy’s wife, Sally. This man interacting with wild nature documentary has impressive emotional layers for the viewer to untangle. Billy and Sally Mail are instantly likable as charismatic Scottish childless folks. REAL people. Billy with his growing obsession with the young otter, Molly, and Sally strongly grounded in the reality of this potentially dysfunctional behavior by her husband, Billy. Sally is the anchor of rational reason, yet is loyally supportive of Billy’s passion with the young female otter. Layers of love, obsession, and jealous-free loyalty for the viewer to navigate, and from the viewer’s perspective assess the whether attention Billy gives to the female otter is healthy pursuit or a dysfunctional obsession. While I disagree with some of the things Billy did with his support to this wild otter, I do admire Billy’s commitment and love for her, as well as Sally’s loyalty and support for her husband’s at times —very questionable passion. Jade, their “second fiddle” dog in this film underscores the sometimes unhealthy need for some human’s prioritization to domesticate wild animals, despite already having a pet which displays unconditional love.
