What to Know

Critics Consensus

Expanding the franchise with some effective twists, Bird Box Barcelona lacks some of its predecessor's creepy tension but remains occasionally involving in its own right.

Audience Says

Bird Box Barcelona has some interesting ideas for new directions the franchise could follow, but overall, this sequel lacks a lot of what made the first movie worth watching.

This is even more drab than the first instalment of the Netflix horror-thriller. Go to Full Review

The film has moments of pure and hard terror that should appease those who love the genre. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

[There's] a new element, which I think is very bright of the film... They pull this thing off again. Go to Full Review

Bird Box: Barcelona successfully builds on the groundwork of the original by providing a more fleshed-out world to house the unique and terrifying concept we were first introduced to five years ago. Go to Full Review

It’s certainly no clone of its 2018 predecessor. The Pastors do a good job of giving their film its own identity, taking the same concept and building on it in a number of interesting ways. Go to Full Review

The movie could have spent time observing the themes around grief and what it does to someone but, instead, focuses on the faux-religious angle that takes away the emotional moments to reach its full potential. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 8h Bird Box Barcelona attempts to reinvent the concept introduced in Bird Box, but instead of expanding the mythology in a meaningful way, it strips the story of tension and replaces it with confusion. The film takes a drastically different tonal approach, one that feels less like a continuation and more like a misfire that undercuts what made the original effective. Despite clear effort, the narrative never finds focus. The story feels disjointed, creatively misguided, and emotionally flat, making it difficult to stay invested. Characters drift in and out without impact, and the stakes never feel urgent enough to justify the runtime. Building the film around lesser-known actors is not the issue; the problem is the lack of character development and narrative clarity. Rather than feeling bold, it plays like a hesitant rebranding attempt. Ultimately, Bird Box Barcelona lacks cohesion, intensity, and purpose. While the original thrived as a Netflix phenomenon, this entry feels unnecessary See more Mo R Nov 10 Terrible not a patch on the original Bird Box See more VITALII H @freakynickison Oct 28 I don't know what happened here but something went wrong. It actually made me appreciate the first movie even more. It was so boring... If you're gonna make the second movie "Bird Box" gotta go hard because the tirst one was a success and I absolutely oved it. To say that I expect more would be an understatement. I didn't even cared about the main characters, wasn't worried about them either... The movie misses some excitement although they spent some budget on the production but instead they could've spent more on writing which was poor, but maybe it's just me... See more thiago s @Thiagostone Oct 1 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Aluna U Sep 30 Bird Box: Barcelona offers a fresh perspective by following the story from the eyes of a "seer"—those who survive after seeing the deadly entity. The film maintains a mostly linear timeline with brief flashbacks to build character depth, especially for the protagonist. While it brings more direct interaction with the creatures, the emotional weight and character chemistry fall short compared to the original. The ending introduces a questionable scientific twist, slightly weakening the grounded tension. Despite its flaws, it remains a watchable spin-off for fans of the universe.
