Critics Consensus

Bird People is admirably ambitious, but its handful of high-flying moments don't add up to a consistently compelling film.

People are just like birds, this French drama asserts-over and over again, with mind-numbing obviousness, until you might feel like spreading your wings and flying away yourself. Go to Full Review

An airport hotel may not seem the most inspiring of locations for a story of life-changing consequence, but French filmmaker Pascale Ferran's delicate, compassionate "Bird People" is just that sort of risk-taking existential adventure. Go to Full Review

The vehicle for the message feels haphazard, as if Ferran were trying to create a patchwork of various film types rather than one cohesive piece. Go to Full Review

Alec B 12/13/2023 There's a moment, about 2/3 of the way in, that will either win you over completely or lose you. I can't say much more for fear of spoiling it, but sufficed to say I'm firmly in the former camp as it blows up the story in such an exciting way without being inconsistent with the rest of the film. See more 05/08/2016 Starts as a promising film with the first part starring Josh Charles and his midlife crisis. However, as it continues it gets unclear and scattered, as if the plot's details weren't put together enough. See more 03/10/2016 Interesting movie. Both connected and unconnected. For a 2014 movie, everyone sure smokes a lot. See more 05/14/2015 Starts out so well, very interesting turn about three quarters of the way through, but then it goes nowhere. Todo mundo já sonhou em voar como um pássaro, ou largar uma vida de rotina e responsabilidade. Bird people sobrevoa os desejos mais utópicos do ser humano. See more Read all reviews
