      Critics Consensus

Bitch has an intriguing premise and a strong start that hints at greater things for writer-director-star Marianna Palka, even if its reach ultimately exceeds its grasp.

Bella D So fucking weird. The "comedy" did not make sense for the situation happening in the movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Wolfgang's M I fell asleep. This was so awful. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Watched it a few years ago and loved it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member This review contains spoilers. What an absolute load. There's nothing funny about it, and there's no feminist sensibility either. I expected both, and by about twenty minutes in was praying for either. Half an hour in, I was simply praying for someone to deal with the emergency situation the characters were in, which gets dragged out until nearly the end, and quite worried that the titular character would die. Then there's a whole Mr. Mom bit, which feels not only incredibly dated but incredibly patronizing, and finally — SPOILER WARNING — the minute the character's husband pays the least bit of normal attention to her, she's instantly, miraculously fine. UGH. ARE YOU KIDDING WITH THIS. Utter trash with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Criminal waste of a talented cast. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Very amusing and gave a better insight to mothers with to many demands and the impact it has on them. Gave me a more indepth understanding to someone i know dealing with simular problems and why she did the things she was doing when she used to be perfevt soccer mom Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review adam b Although a strange script, I thoroughly enjoyed most of it and was surprised by how good the acting is in this film. Leah Pickett Chicago Reader The father is unsympathetic, the kids are uninteresting, and the sister-in-law is unnecessary, so the mother's absence from her own story becomes glaring. Sep 25, 2018 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics Bitch is darkly funny and often oddly satisfying, and how perfectly filmmaker Marianna Palka and co-star Jason Ritter understand their roles goes a long way. Rated: 3/5 Nov 13, 2017 Full Review Christy Lemire RogerEbert.com [Palka's] come up with an intriguing premise, but doesn't quite have the nuance or the storytelling chops to offer an insightful satire. Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 10, 2017 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review It's a deeply personal, intimate piece of storytelling that holds within it dark, uncomfortable humor and pain. May 19, 2020 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The way the story is built and acted is fantastic and connects with the audience in way that slowly builds throughout the film. Rated: 4.5/5 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Dominic Griffin Spectrum Culture ...a premise that sounds like a particularly shitty '90s comedy is mined for challenging social commentary.
