For her birthday, English teenager Anne Wheldon (Mona Freeman) is given a newborn horse. She names him Black Beauty and cares for him as he grows into a strong colt. One day, American Bill Dixon (Richard Denning) visits Anne's family's farm. He takes great interest in Anne's young horse, while Anne, however, is very taken with Bill. When he returns some years later, Anne hopes to draw Bill's attention, but she is dismayed to see that he still views her as a little girl.
