sarah m Blame it on Fidel gives us an idea of communism in the late 80's through the perspective of a young nine-year girl. The movie is more political that one might assume as it is following the daily life of a children. More often than not, I found myself not only reflecting on young Anna's immaturity (played by Nina Kervel), but also on relating to it . The film follows a fair episodic approach and is extremely is well acted. The director, Julie Gravas has done a good job contrasting the immaturity of childhood with the seriousness of the communist political combat. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Blame It on Fidel has a very Atonement-esque feel to it. It's a great movie, and an important movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Blame It on Fidel is a sweet film that provides social commentary while never straying far from a lightheartedness. Kervel is truly stunning in her performance as the ever-curious Anna, and by her fearsome gaze, I can see a bright, bright future for her. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is about a French little girl's efforts to understand and make sense of partial, inconsistent reactions and explanations from grown-ups around her to various political events in the early 70's while her parents' lives become increasingly aligned with their political ideals. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is about a child seen the changes through out their view of life, when it comes to the confusing life of political issues. I can truly relate to Anna in a sort of way on how sometimes the changes can be hard specially when you're used to having different expectations. Having your parents taking changes, specially political changes and how sometimes parents can be dysfunctional plus with their fighting. Truly love that it was French, there's something about the language that is magical. Either way it brought some memories of my childhood just watching this movie.
