David F This is not a bad war film, with the appealing, all American Bumstead family, featuring Arthur Lake as the only slightly incompetent Dagwood Bumstead. This is a role that he could have mishandled, so many such characters and pratfalling contemptibles. Lake salvages lovability and credibility from the role and gives the film seties a solid anchor. Blondie herself is a reasonably solid performance from Penny Singleton. Jonathan Hale is an excellent straight man as boss Mr Dithers. The story is a wartime morale booster, which in retrospect, highlights the importance of the Home Front in America and particularly the role of organised, capable women. Well worth a watch.
