Mark Dujsik RogerEbert.com The movie's promise collapses under the weight of inconsistent characters and a generic, cliché-ridden plot. Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 30, 2018 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times "Blood Brother" is just a compendium of pulp clichés, with nothing to say about these characters or the worlds they inhabit. Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Dominic Griffin Spectrum Culture Any self-respecting American would rather watch John Cena play a Rambo pastiche than watch Trey Songz do literally anything other than sing "Can't Help But Wait." Rated: 1/5 Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Craig D. Lindsey L.A. Weekly I'll be straight with you: this movie is awful. Nov 28, 2018 Full Review Jamie Broadnax Black Girl Nerds Now that we know what Trey Songz can do in gritty cop thrillers, let's see what he can do in dramatic roles that challenge his range - I think he can do it. Audience Member me gusto la peli 7/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Blood Brother was precisely the kind of movie as was looking for to watch for the evening. It's a low budget hood crime action movie that reminds me of Fresh, Waist Deep, Belly and Juice. The movie revolves around Jake and Sonny who were teenage gangstas in a four member gang called Demons. Fifteen years ago the gang were fleeing a convenience store robbery when fate had an armored truck high speed robbery happen in the same place the boys fled. During the shoot out, both the armored truck drivers and the criminal chasing them are either killed or incapacitated. The boys decide to steal money as no one in on-scene to stop them. However, one of the drivers alive and Sonny attempts to shoot him but can't. Instead, Jake does. In present day, Sonny is now a cop, and Jake is getting out of prison as the police believe he acted alone in the theft with some 3 million dollars still missing. Sonny still feels guilty for Jake going to prison and makes sure he gets the entirety of the 3 mil. It isn't long before Sonny learns that Jake doesn't want the money. Jake wants Sonny to reveal the real man he is: a remorseless criminal and killer just like Jake. Blood Brothers makes several leaps in logic and the plot getting a bit convoluted doesn't help. However, letting those elements go, there's a decent game of cat and mouse going on between Jake and Sonny that rarely slows down and provides decent action straight out of late 80s early 90s VHS action crime movies. The themes of Blood Brothers does get a little muddled at times, but is simple enough of an idea that it doesn't lose the audience. The cinematography tries for some interesting compositions that are often hit-and-miss. For example, the overhead shots of driving feel out of place until they are used for showing the relative positions of drivers during a car chase. I don't think the over headshot works, but at least it allows the audience to keep track of things. Blood Brother is by no means a good movie. It is a mostly competently made one. If someone is looking for a hood action crime movie and has depleted what would have been found at the local video store when they were around, then Blood Brother works. Just don't go in expecting Menace II Society or Boyz in the Hood. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Could’ve been a stronger Plot Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/19/18 Full Review Audience Member Letï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s just start by saying that, for a first time lead role, Trey Songz did really well as Sonny! Jack Kesy(Jake) was intense, but the way Sonny handled his(Jakeï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s) crazy was great, showing that he was just as intense. This movie was suspenseful start to finish! Any movie thatï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s not easy to predict is the movie for me. I look forward to see what roles Trey will conquer next! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this film! Tre Songz & Jack Kesy are great. Loved The music, message, action & esp like Jakeï¿ 1/2(TM)s dialogue. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Trey songs and Jack did a good job with the acting. But honestly this movie is not realistic and it has crazy plot holes. I was cringing the whole way. Its cliche. It is just a forgettable movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
