Fetty Wap
Rising from the streets of Paterson, New Jersey (where he was born in 1991), hip-hop artist Fetty Wap started off as just a rapper, but success didn't come until he started to sing. Born Willie Maxwell III, he had severe glaucoma in both eyes as a child, and the doctors were only able to save one, so he began to use a prosthetic eye on the left side. His first single, "Trap Queen," peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015, but the young artist was just getting started. By the end of the year he had become the first artist to have his first four singles in the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks Top 10 at the same time. In September of 2015, Fetty Wap released a self titled solo effort, which included all four of the tracks, as well 13 unreleased tracks, many featuring beats or raps from his long-time Paterson friends, dubbed the Remy Boyz in reference to the copious amounts of Remy Martin the crew consumed. The record debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200. "Trap Queen" was nominated for two prizes at the 2016 Grammy Awards, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance.
