When Jane Messina is summoned home to visit her two sisters and her ailing father, she's forced to re-evaluate her life, and to wonder what could have been. Blue Eyed Girl is a coming-of-age story, just at the age of forty, not fifteen. It's about marriage, midlife, chasing dreams, and most of all, it's about reconciling who you are, with who you thought you might be.

Blue Eyed Girl is far from subversive, but it deals with sincere subject matter that, for some reason, is underserved by filmmakers. Go to Full Review

Blue Eyed Girl takes a hard look at midlife and tears it apart, offering a raw, emotional reflection about being at the crossroads of our past and our present and coming to terms with our dreams—and our realities. Go to Full Review

A story that’s been told before but tell it well and it’s worthwhile to revisit. “Blue Eyed Girl” is told very well with a winning cast of characters, the very definition of an independent film. Go to Full Review

[Marisa] Coughlan has always been a standout performer, if underappreciated, and both her comedic capabilities and emotional depth help Blue Eyed Girl elevate any of its standard structure. Go to Full Review

The pic’s sweet and soulful centre is the lovely Marisa Coughlan, working from her own script; [she] finds a warm truth as ‘Jane’, the 40-ish L.A. mum suddenly faced with a lot of emotional Midwest baggage and bittersweet mature-age dramatics. Go to Full Review

Connor J @Connor73 6d There is a rare kind of magic in Blue Eyed Girl, led by the stunning and moving lead, Marisa Coughlan (Jane), is a heartfelt storyline of love and loss and growth , we all can deeply relate to, illuminated by magnificent cinematography capturing the Midwest in its truest form. The rekindling dance between distant sisters, the unspoken tension of a marriage at a crossroads, and the tender moments of a daughter rediscovering her father , entertwined with love, humour and truth, made this film captivating in all senses. It also offers a great reminder of what it means being true to yourself , and to the ones you love, no matter how far away you are , your home in each others hearts will always eternally be. One beautiful, heart touching and magical movie I will watch again and again ! See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Dec 12 Blue Eyed Girl (2025) struggles to balance its dramatic intentions. Centered on a young woman, her sisters, and their father, who battles suicidal ideation and attempts, the film handles a heavy topic but fails to deliver the emotional weight it requires. The story feels uneven, lacking the intensity of a true drama while also never finding enough levity to function as dark comedy. The screenplay is flat, with scenes that drag and pivotal moments that fail to land, leaving the audience disengaged from the characters’ struggles. Performances are uneven; while some actors show glimpses of authenticity, key emotional beats, especially surrounding the father, feel inconsistent and underdeveloped. Direction doesn’t help, with pacing issues and little focus on building tension or connection. Overall, Blue Eyed Girl has potential but falters in execution, resulting in a tiresome and uninspired film that fails to engage, leaving it difficult to recommend. It's very well written and has a ton of great performances - a particular stand out is Eliza Coupe, she's hilarious. If you are looking for a moving story with great characters check out this under the radar gem. See more Will C. @WillC_Wash60 Nov 29 It rang a bell for me and, I suspect, it will for others. We've all had relationships with people ( and places) that might have been worth pursuing. We moved on, but sometimes wonder about what might have been. I loved the combination of drama and comedy along with beautiful scenery. See more Read all reviews
