David Parkinson Empire Magazine The intelligent script and skilful central performances make for a gently compelling romance. Rated: 3/5 May 8, 2009 Full Review Wally Hammond Time Out Ably mounted and shot, 'Blue Eyelids' is a welcome clich-free zone, often touching and occasionally very funny, played out in a minor register suitable for the lives it describes. Rated: 3/6 May 8, 2009 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) Not an awful lot happens but the acting is first-rate, if low-key, and the choice of Ray Davies's This Strange Effect as a recurring motif on the soundtrack brings a melancholy sweetness to the story. Rated: 3/5 May 8, 2009 Full Review Hugo Lara EscribiendoCine Blue Eyelids is a work of cinema that feels alive, evolving and resonating long after the lights on the screen go out. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 8/10 Jul 1, 2024 Full Review Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) There have been countless films about ordinary, lonely people finding love, but few of them can have had characters quite as unassertive and nondescript as the couple featured in this Mexican comic drama. Rated: 2/5 May 13, 2009 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) There are touching moments, a developing tenderness, some shuffling truths here and there, but not enough to make these marginal figures demand the attention the film's director thinks they deserve. Audience Member A film that gets into its female leads mind quite well, here Cecilia suarez playing a lonely woman winning a trip away for two at work, and her striking up a friendship with a man possibly in similer lonely circumstances before the trip and inviting him along, as the time comes near, its a interesting story to see where these two will lead. some solid acting from the leads and a nice pace to everything., Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Human born to be lonely. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Kind of disturbing, but very touching as well. It is an off-beat romantic movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member very plain story, but really sad. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Captivating awkwardness...Great performances by the two lead actors Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Mexican romantic comedy about two quiet lonely boring people who decide to date to fill the void. Horribly realistic and pretty entertaining too ... if you've ever been on a date for any other reason than actually liking the person, you'll empathize with the awkwardness of having absolutely nothing to talk about.
