26.HERNANDEZ C Dec 1 Ernesto Contreras’ feature debut is a beautifully subdued character study, anchored by pitch-perfect, melancholic performances from Cecilia Suárez and Enrique Arreola. The cinematography is exquisite, lending a dreamy, isolated quality to the tropical setting. While the film’s deliberate pacing and quiet intimacy masterfully capture the deep-seated yearning of the protagonists, it does, at times, stray into territory that some viewers might find a bit boring. However, for those willing to embrace its gentle rhythm, Blue Eyelids offers a profound and unique look at the difficulties of modern intimacy. Its subtle brilliance earns it a Fresh rating.
