Peter Rainer FilmWeek (LAist) It has a very lyrical, steady and poetic moodiness to it. Jun 4, 2025 Full Review Kimberley Jones Austin Chronicle Blue Sun Palace lives in the gray area with the rest of us mortals. What it conveys, quite beautifully, is the essentialness in sharing your life with others, through joy and grief. Rated: 3.5/5 May 15, 2025 Full Review Tomris Laffly RogerEbert.com Tsang deepens the themes of her movie in unhurried doses, bringing to the surface the loneliness, isolation, and displacement of the remaining characters. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) [Constance Tsang's] shots, always aesthetic, are never conventional. This makes the film...particularly demanding for the audience. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 22, 2025 Full Review Jay Liu The Asian Cut Tsang simply depicts life as it is: in real time; no exploitation or judgment involved. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 31, 2025 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha JoySauce.com The way Tsang’s camera drifts between close ups, and the way her actors thoroughly embody longing and lived experience, is wonderfully humanistic. It feels momentous even in its stillness. Jul 8, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Vincent S. A haunting, beautiful movie about dealing with grief. The performances are outstanding! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Justin M This movie makes me so hopeful for the future of independent film. It follows a group of Chinese migrants in New York City, and, like “In the Mood for Love” (2000), it centers on two who form a special bond in the wake of tragedy and heartbreak. Like many memorable immigrant stories, it speaks a lot about hope and dreams, even as the present is full of setbacks and occasional squalor. Incredible to believe this is director Constance Tsang’s debut film, as she tells the story with stunning wisdom and depth, unafraid to leave jagged edges in some places – that’s life, after all. There are moments that give off strong “Anora” vibes, somehow both comforting and isolating, and the ambiguity and ambivalence are the common threads through this survival story. Tender and touching but with really hard moments too, both of violence and of desperation. Still, a stunning must-see, even with subtitles. A really beautiful snapshot of life on the edge.
