erika One of the worst I’ve seen Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/19/24 Full Review Alec B What if "Vertigo" but it is all pure 80s sleaze? Look De Palma clearly made this intending to offend but his pure craftsmanship elevates the movie beyond the lurid and ridiculous screenplay. If you can accept this all as pure fantasy, which is what I believe you should do with all of De Palma's erotic thrillers, you can disregard the moral implications and enjoy the movie on its own terms. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Robert T A masterful exploration of voyeurism wrapped up in a sleazy, glamourous murder mystery plot. Though slow in the beginning, once the movie gets going, it will keep you glued to the screen all the way until the glorious end. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/13/23 Full Review Elias R Excessively stylized to the point of artifice. Poorly constructed, predictable plot. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/25/22 Full Review Shioka O Another high quality B- film by De Palma. This is more suspenseful/outrageous than the other Hitchcock homages made by him. Technical camerawork. 80s flick. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/03/22 Full Review michael d 3 stars all-around with one 5-star sequence. Christy Lemire ChristyLemire.com It's an expertly crafted B-movie, a brisk and twisty mixture of the slick and sleazy, the glossy and grungy. Rated: 3/4 Jun 18, 2018 Full Review Paul Attanasio Washington Post ... "Body Double" finds Brian De Palma at the zenith of his cinematic virtuosity. Jan 4, 2018 Full Review Eric Henderson Slant Magazine Body Double, while not his finest, is the best candidate as Brian De Palma's signature film. Rated: 4/4 Aug 29, 2006 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Everything is Horrible (Substack) The plot keeps putting you with Jake as he flails ineffectually, frozen outside of the narrative, just like the viewer. Jul 16, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting It’s pretty self-aware of DePalma and co-writer Robert J. Avrech to play on the former’s reputation for mistreating female characters by making the whole film about the male lead’s insecurities and inefficiencies. Rated: 4/5 Apr 21, 2023 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst Loved Body Double for the same reasons I've loved all his other films: fluid, breath-taking camera work, glossy, sensual imagery, a gorgeous Pino Donnagio score and the satisfying feeling that an assured master manipulator has you eating out of his hand.
