Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle With so much on the line, Boogie just sort of dribbles to nothingness. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 11, 2021 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Writer/director Eddie Huang's flawed feature does have flashes to recommend it, particularly in depicting matters of the heart between Boogie and a no-nonsense Black classmate. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 11, 2021 Full Review Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I really wanted to like this movie, but honestly it's really tedious. Mar 10, 2021 Full Review Carson Timar Clapper Not only is the film simply boring and unenjoyable, but its confused identity leads to an experience that seemingly will satisfy no individual audience member completely. Feb 22, 2022 Full Review Therese Lacson Nerdophiles Eddie Huang's directorial debut suffers from a poor script, uneven acting, and a lack of originality. Rated: 2/5 Oct 8, 2021 Full Review Witney Seibold Critically Acclaimed Podcast What it lacks in story originality, it more than makes up for in believably angry naturalism. Brandon Richardson For a movie that boasts of cultural struggle, there seems to be a huge lack of it. The movie had so much potential to be a game changer for representation of the Asian American community. But instead of focusing on the elements that show the struggle of Chinese stereotypes, it keeps all the attention on the main character’s personal issues. The acting is pretty great but it’s not strong enough to make up for such a weak plot. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/21 Full Review Todd N Good movie and interesting to watch. My disappointment was the swearing using the “F-bomb.” Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/21 Full Review Rob C Good acting and casting, story was fairly simple and hard to believe. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/21 Full Review Earl The plot was good and the storyline was good. I enjoyed this movie I just thought the ending would have been more detailed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/21 Full Review MYRA P The plot was good but I didnt lake how it ended. No closure with Boogie and Elenor relationship Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/21 Full Review Shanel A cool story about growing up and fighting for yourself in the face of struggle and cultural responsibility. I really enjoyed it :) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/06/21 Full Review Read all reviews
