Critics Consensus

A juvenile, ugly movie that represents the worst tendencies of directors channeling Tarantino.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader A macho bloodbath with a lot of juvenile humor and fake Catholic mysticism... Jul 14, 2022 Full Review Nathan Rabin AV Club Satire or self-parody would be vastly preferable to the film's unironic endorsement of outlaw justice, but you'd be hard pressed to find anything resembling irony or subversiveness in this exercise in lovingly rendered ultra-violence. Jul 26, 2011 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness [A] dim-witted, aesthetically clunky Tarantino clone. Rated: C- Oct 23, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The entire production feels uneven, shoddy, and offensively oxymoronic. Rated: 0.5/4 Aug 30, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins An enthralling gangster epic, a solid action film, and a jolting vigilante-justice crime caper. Rated: 7/10 Sep 10, 2020 Full Review Ed Travis Hollywood Jesus The Boondock Saints, on one level, is a really great direct-to-video cult film. Stylish, defiantly endearing, and even borderline iconic. Apr 10, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Sara J This movie didn't have much of a plot but it was pretty entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Gavin F I use this movie as an example of why movie critics are pompous idiots Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/25 Full Review Tiffany F Amazing movie! Absolute Cult Classic! Always watch anytime on TV. Used to watch on repeat in College, Love the Saints! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Frank D It's a vigilante / mafia / who-dun-it / shoot 'em up / dark comedy movie all in one! I won't go into all the details of the plot and scenarios, but I can see why the so-called "critics" would dislike this movie from a snob appeal point of view. This is simply a movie, not a "film". But from a regular person's perspective, it's pretty darned entertaining. That's all I ask for when I kick back for a 2 hour break from reality. The absurdity and dark humor of this movie stand the test of time. Two thumbs up! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Georgan G Nothing about this movie was worthwhile. Stupid writing, a waste of good actors & simply a time waster. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Jack D You are reading this to determine if it's worth watching. Answer...yes, it is. However, don't expect The Godfather or even The Departed. Objectively, just not as good as those movies. What I can say is that this movie is fun and enjoyable. The disparity between critics and Popcornmeter being 26/91 in favor of the fans (at the time of writing) tells you something. If you don't like the movie, fine, but the so called "critics" who hate it are the same type of people who INSIST that you call every movie a "film". They take themselves a bit too seriously. Lighten up a bit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
