Critics Consensus

A juvenile, ugly movie that represents the worst tendencies of directors channeling Tarantino.

A macho bloodbath with a lot of juvenile humor and fake Catholic mysticism... Go to Full Review

Satire or self-parody would be vastly preferable to the film's unironic endorsement of outlaw justice, but you'd be hard pressed to find anything resembling irony or subversiveness in this exercise in lovingly rendered ultra-violence. Go to Full Review

The Boondock Saints, on one level, is a really great direct-to-video cult film. Stylish, defiantly endearing, and even borderline iconic. Go to Full Review

James H Jan 12 Not for everyone, but with moments sometimes so crazy some may cringe, for others its a crazy good laugh. For many of us a cool introduction to the acting of Norman Reedus. WATCH IT! See more Grunt B @Rokaan Dec 15 The negative reviews clearly show how little they actually care about what makes this movie a legendary timeless cult classic. From it's casting through the script to the damn fine camerawork. It also shows how money does all the talking... Because may i remind al the negative critics that this is a very low budget production for what is shown. 'T is that i know mr daffoe obliged duffy to undercut his innitial contract because of what this magnificent heap of irish punk mixed with catholic fanatisism and how to get away with murder 101 absurdism this turned out to be. The whole character dynamic between sean and norman. And say what you want... to most hes daryl. But to me he will always be murphy mcmannus. (Walking dead is for normie wannabee geeks anyways). And ofcourse mr connoly and noah(il duce) Those with Keane eye for good camerawork may experience multiple cinegasms. See more Aye E Dec 15 This is a really mixed bag. My first impression is that it was cheesy and cartoonish. Felt like some teen boy made up this story. But it has some redeeming qualities as well. The way they flashback to the details or have the investigator in the middle of a crime scene in progress as he's retelling it is really creative. Seems like they managed to do a lot with a low budget. And I like the idea of these skilled main characters that know multiple languages. But the fact that they team up with that idiot kind of throws the idea of them being smart out of the window. A lot of things that were supposed to be dramatic were lame and sometime hilarious (when their buddy gets killed and their way over the top reaction, the cheesy praying, them getting the "calling"). Although the intermittent Irish accents from the Boston boys were funny. Willem Dafoe's performance is really the only strength of this movie, though Billy Connolly makes a strong appearance at the end. See more Jack F @MovieFan111 Nov 18 I did not like this movie. They say it's ugly, and I know what they mean by that. I can understand the audience score being a 91, and I can also understand the 26. When movies have a big ass gap like this, something is clearly wrong. See more Logan V Nov 16 This movie does not deserve the poor rating it was given. The point of the movie was to be goofy and serious at the same time, if you have a problem with that then you picked the wrong movie as it is a great movie to watch.
