What to Know

Critics Consensus

Borgman's unpredictability may confound as many viewers as it enthralls, but either way, it's a refreshingly original experiment in off-kilter terror.

Mark Feeney Boston Globe What Marina sees in Borgman is one of the countless implausibilities that make the film more annoying than disturbing. Rated: 1/4 Jul 17, 2014 Full Review Liam Lacey Globe and Mail The black humour and perversity can occasionally startle, but the film takes far too much sadistic delight in punishing these entitled dopes. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 11, 2014 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star A creepily comical story about an insistent vagrant turned insidious home occupier. Rated: 3/4 Jul 3, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com A strikingly composed parable of surprising humor and crafty wit. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 30, 2019 Full Review Hanna B Film Threat [It] can easily captivate the right viewers and have others in complete disdain over its restrained attitude. In addition, it exhibits the sort of twisted humor about people mechanically performing disturbing abhorrent acts... Aug 6, 2019 Full Review Paul Freitag-Fey Daily Grindhouse A film for a pretty specific taste and an openness to being perplexed. Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Diana S Eerie and disturbing. It starts off one way and goes a completely other, and it feels like a train bound for a crash but you can't get off. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/21/23 Full Review Craig M There is no better film exploration of bourgeois self-hatred, and how it opens the door to evil of every kind. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Tyler B It's the kind of film that keeps you guessing even after you've finished it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/04/23 Full Review Tony F Aimless story, a bit interesting at times but mostly boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/23 Full Review Jay P Nonsense. It could have been better if I would have written it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/22 Full Review Audience Member The language barrier made it difficult to get into but the premise it laid out was easy enough to follow and understand for awhile. Then it started twisting and turning a bit and it became less easy to follow with having to read the subtitles. Still, the build-up to the conclusion is decent and...the conclusion itself justifies the means. Very diabolical but it lacks an overall sense of reason, thought I think it's meant to be a about a cult and it's origins but that's not entirely clear nor is it clear what kind of cult they are.
