Janine Beautifully shot with flawless acting by all of the actors. The casting is perfect. Fantastic to see Tim Winton's wonderful book brought to the screen with such finesse. A thoroughly enjoyable movie with an undercurrent of wisdom. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/24 Full Review Rhianna J I read this book in my teens and couldn't put it down, I felt the film brought it to life in such a magical way. Bravo Simon Baker. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/11/23 Full Review Catrina N Exquisite. Totally unique. Kudos to all involved. Just wish I could see it -- the water scenes -- in the theater on the big screen. Baker, you killed it. Hope to see more movies selected and directed by you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Paul H It was a beautiful movie. Loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review tony h Very good in many ways, not so good in others... Not sure what the point of the author's book or this film was or might be yet, as why would a long-since grown-up man still be obsessed about teen-aged coming-of-age stories? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Clunky script ("you larve ya chops"), direction and performances that suffers in striving for authenticity and relies heavily on well worn Austraaaaaaliana and tired movie standards. Johanna Schneller Globe and Mail Baker proves himself a talented director; he manages the rolling rhythms of his waves and his story with skill... Rated: 3/4 Aug 24, 2018 Full Review Steve Davis Austin Chronicle As odd as it may initially seem, The Endless Summer becomes Summer of '42, and Breath reveals itself to be the coming-of-age story it's been all along. Rated: 3/5 Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Baker keenly captures the beckoning magnetism of active waters, not to mention the searching souls - young and experienced - who gravitate toward its dangers. Jun 7, 2018 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse An enjoyably but languidly paced film that captures the slower pace of life in 1970s Australia. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Peter Gray The AU Review It's purposely low-key, but it thrives on deflecting expectation and wallowing in its own ethereal state.
