Spotted Hide R Wow, just when you thought it could not get any worse, it did. And any time you thought it was going to get better , it didn't. It was gross, and raunchy, sick, twisted, depressing and kind of stupid. I had to finish it because I was thinking there was just no way we were going to sit though ALL Of that BS and disturbing content and not see the happy ending, and just when you thought the ending was going to be as happy as it could be given everything that happened, they put one last final SUCK in and then it was over. I have totally wasted 2 hours of my life. It’s directing, cinematography, performances and the authenticity of the time period. Watching it, you feel the cold, the oppressive darkness and the sense of dread that the characters experience. It’s out of order chronology doesn’t always feel necessary, but the thing it does best is highlight just how hard a life our lead has had, and the more we see, the more we care about her. The almost 2-and-a-half-hour runtime isn’t so much of a problem because it’s longer than your average film, its an issue because of how tiring the material becomes, especially in the last hour. The film becomes a grind, a grim and protracted carnival of misery where our lead is treated horribly again and again and again. There’s no levity whatsoever and it becomes deflating, with no interest or entertainment value. Its the kind of story where you just want it to be over because you don’t want to feel any more depressed. Obviously, the film is depicting very real issues and very real past traumas, in this case the kind of Hell women have been put through by religious zealots who condemned everything they did and always managed to find an appropriate bible passage to justifying their cruelty. But it gets to a point where you’ve gotten the message, and anything after that just feels gratuitous and unnecessary. A single watch is more than enough, and while you might find yourself turning away from the screen at times, you’ll still concede that Brimstone is an incredible piece of filmmaking. La divisione in quattro atti, con linea temporale distorta è sinceramente un po' cervellotica e poco scorrevole; soprattutto nel momento del cambio si fatica a stare al passo e i primi minuti di ogni parte risultano piuttosto difficoltosi da digerire. Sicuramente la sceneggiatura è piuttosto originale sia nei personaggi che nella trama e trova un buon equilibrio seppure non si è mai veramente appassionati dalla storia, piuttosto ci si limita a guardarla con un discreto interesse per i suoi sviluppi.
