Blu B This is one of those films where 5 people could watch this and you'll get 7 different opinions on it. That being said I don't think it's really good but man I'd be lying if I didn't say this was gloriously entertaining at times in all the wrong ways and other times it suprises you with some cool and out there stuff to. But if there is one thing that this isn't...it's scary. Not once did I feel creeped out, disturbed, or jump. This is ALL OVER THE PLACE. The acting isn't good. Sometimes it's hilariously bad, super boring, or sometimes it can get kind of good actually. The main head villian guy is like if you found the old guy who walks your neighborhood and took him to Party City for a Devil Movie your making. The music isn't bad but it isn't used enough, sometimes it's super boring, other times really weird, and sometimes it's not used enough. The editing is terrible at times and the pacing isn't good. The cinematography is alright I guess but man it too is all over the place. You literally will go from laughing at bad acting, getting bored out of your mind, seeing some trippy New Hollywood arthouse style stuff, and some pretty cool scenes all within short spans. If this just wouldn't have dragged terribly at the end it would've helped also. The ceremony takes FOREVER and drags terribly. Anything with the parents and police isn't that interesting either. Also I knw the kids can be abducted instantly by magic but I swear there are other scenes where people just have instant transmission in this flick and just go places in seconds. Than there are times it doesn't know when to cut or just throws crazy stuff at you with no concept of building tension or pacing. So it comes offas surreal and laughable. There are some cool sets but it also looks really low budget too. And you can BARELY understand the main idea here because it just doesn't know how to stay focused on characters too long and when it does I swear it's on accident. It's like cluelessly brilliant at times. Unless your a die hard fan of New Hollywood Satanic subgenre flicks most should skip this bizarre flick. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review brad p Your enjoyment of this film will depend on how much you like low-budget '70s horror. Even so, this film does spend too much time spinning its wheels but the clandestine coven meetings and life-sized toy kills are both worth the price of admission. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Ben is a recent widower, but hey — he's taking his new girl Nicky on a road trip and making out with her whenever he can. Unfortunately, that trip also has his daughter K.T. (fake Jan Geri Reischl) along for the ride and she's perfectly ready to drip sticky melted snow cone all over her new mommy's face and ruin some side of the road necking. The journey takes them to the town of Hillsboro, where the townspeople have been hiding from a great evil that seems to be killing everyone and making their children go missing. And the murders? Well, toys are involved and people are reduced to madness just by confronting the evil in their midst. Strother Martin is Doc Duncan, who is either the human behind all of this or Satan himself and man, he's great in this movie. Everyone is. It's a low budget drive-in film, sure, but it's also astoundingly sure of itself and a film that presents itself with great intelligence. It has one hell of an exploitation title but also has so many disquieting moments that will stay with you long after you finish watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent and wonderful movie I love this movie if you want to watch a horror movie from the 70s watch this one it starts off a little slow but gets really scary Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly bold for its time. It's a cool, effective movie about occultism in a small town. Martin is just awesome in it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/19 Full Review Audience Member A family travelling across California run across a small town in crisis. People are dying, children are disappearing, and nobody has been able to enter or leave town. It does not bode well for them that they have been able to enter town, especially since they are travelling with their young daughter. Character actor extraordinaire L.Q. Jones formed a production partnership with comic actor Alvy Moore in the mid-60's and they specialized in low budget genre fare. This is the 3rd film they produced and it's where the quality really jumps. One of the strongest virtues is that Jones acts in this one, playing the town's sheriff, and he gets his buddy Strother Martin to co-star as the town doctor. I really like this film. It makes up for it's low budget with a genuinely creepy atmosphere. The small town Satanism theme generates some unnerving dreamlike sequences. While Jones is great here ... Martin is the real standout. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
