Audience Member I was always wondered why Flash Gordon was shown all the time on TV when I was a kid, and this was a total obscurity. Now I know. It's terrible. Buster Crabbe is still his genial self, but Anthony Warde's Killer Kane is no match for Charles Middleton's Ming and the 25th century is pretty bland compared to Mongo. This also commits the following sins: pointless flashback to pad out the running time, Buck using the same trick (3 times) to escape the same room, obvious stunt doubles, and that mainstay of the serial, the cliffhanger that shows something different than the resolution. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member The same guy who played the titular character in the Flash Gordon series plays the titular character in this series. I really don't think you could like one series and not the other; they are so similar. Buck is flying a blimp far into the north when a storm blows them off-course. Many people jump out out into the unknown, but he and his son remain until the crash. They awake 500 years later after being frozen only to find something similar to the New World Order now dominates the globe. Like Flash Gordon expect cardboard sets and cardboard acting. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member The version I saw had large chunks cut out and made it hard to follow. It has a meandering plot with nothing much happening. For 1939 its production values and F/X are pretty good. But did they ever need a better writer. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow! This is a pretty amazing series. Love Constance Moore's character, Wilma Deering, she is a lieutenant and a pretty amazing at flying a space ship as well. Buster Crabbe, Buck Rogers, has vastly improved as an actor. Pretty cool for 1939. Looking forward to the 1979 edition. Wow, wow, wow!!! Wilma actually saves herself from the prison cell! I'm totally impressed! And she defends herself from attackers. Tossing an enemy soldier over a ledge, grabbing explosives and dropping them on the enemy! What happened between 1939 and the women of James Bond?
