As Bobby Kent lay bleeding on July 14, 1993, he called out for help, and then mercy from his friends. Their response was quick and deliberate. Larry Clark's "Bully" chronicles the incident that would leave a community stunned, parents nonplussed and heartbroken and a group of defendants convicted of a brutal crime for which they never repented.

Critics Consensus

With its lingering shots of naked teenage bodies, Bully feels more sordidly exploitative than realistic.

What Clark does suggest in this confrontational work is a cultural condition in American suburbia by which relations between parents and children are strained or even nonexistent. Go to Full Review

There's something troubling about a film which, on the one hand, wants to take a moral stance about a lost generation, and on the other relishes shooting the nubile flesh of its young actors. Go to Full Review

The moral wasteland of suburban youth has been examined, earlier and better, in The River's Edge. Clark's leering leads nowhere: In Bully, he has nothing new to say, and, in the end, no real point to make. Go to Full Review

Wolverine P Jul 10 I watch this movie whenever it is on, even though the movie gets some stuff wrong in what really happened. See more Carey C May 22 It’s par for the course for a Larry Clarke film. It’s exactly like the book with only minor differences. See more Oaklee D @ODie63 Mar 3 It's a film that leaves nothing to the imagination and is a bit too sexual for my tastes, but if you can get through the first chunk of this film the second half becomes quite entertaining. See more Roger S Jan 2 One of the best movies about bored teens. The movie feels real and yes, it is graphic, but it's one of those movies where you're not sure you should be watching because it is so raw, but certainly makes you think for days after viewing it. I still think of this movie years later. See more ringo l Jan 2 Umm, I liked it, it is quite thrilling, watching dumb ass kids lol See more Rich S 11/15/2024 I'm left to decide whether this is a movie worthy of watching at all. For one, I won't ever watch it again. Most movies are a decision between a 3 or 4, maybe a 7 or 8 on my 10-point scale. This one is strange because it's a choice between a 6 (three stars) or a 1. Or even a zero. Despite all of the negative feedback from paid critics for Larry Clark's choices with a young cast, I believe Bully does have some value. And it's hard to assign how much value when dealing with so much immorality. But I think Bully is a movie worth, at the very least, knowing about. See more Read all reviews
