Living conditions are atrocious, safety is threadbare. Typical Russian movie - bleak, weird and depressing but still holds interest. Dania est tiraillé et dérive vers la folie, en rythme avec le compte à rebours. See more 07/18/2009 Each year I go to the film festival knowing that somewhere amongst my tickets there is evil. Lurking among them, perhaps hiding under a compelling review, lurks this years 'Death of Mr Lazarescu'. A movie that isn't just dull, isn't just annoying, but acutally makes me want to harm myself. And 'Paper Soldier' was it for this year. On one hand, I am gravely disapointed that what sounded like a fascinating movie about the political aspects of the early Russian space programme turned out to be a pointless and inexplicable movie about some guy, his fiance (who asks if she can be his dog), his wife (who is happy to perform tricks that the dog does) and his boring, pointless friends, all of whom seem to love nothing more than standing around in the snow for no apparent reason. On the other hand, I am glad that it is out of the way and I can enjoy my remaining week of movies without fear.
