      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Burnt offers a few spoonfuls of compelling culinary drama, but they're lost in a watery goulash dominated by an unsavory main character and overdone clichés.

Nathan W This film started out very strong. A hot shot/bad boy chef with a troubled past, putting together his dream team of cooks. Somewhat reminiscent of a heist movie... Getting the team back together for one last job. But after that, the movie kind of grinds to a halt. The interactions between characters doesnt feel genuine and the film honestly needed to be longer to flush out who the characters are and why we should care. The ending felt rushed to me and lacked that big climax that it should have had. While not a bad film by any means, it could have been so much better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review KB B I thought it was well done and pretty entertaining. I don't quite understand the tepid reviews but I think it's worth the watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Proulxme This is an uncomplicated feel good movie. Bradley Cooper is excellent as a repentant best chef ever who torments and inspires his staff to culinary excellence. The food scenes are so well done it made me salivate. (One scene where he makes breakfast for one of his sous-chefs in particular comes to mind. Delicious.) While the story line and dialogue aren't terribly original, the cast is superb. Sure, the food theme has been done like dinner. But, don't dismiss it on that basis. You'd reorder a particularly good meal, wouldn't you? And did I mention it stars Bradley Cooper? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Irene M although the Metacritic rating was low, I am glad I watched it. the cast was excellent, the immersive look into the world of a restaurant kitchen (Yes Chef!), and the pursuit of 3rd Michelin star. I really enjoyed it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Wes H I can handle arrogant people of great skill if they make me love their craft so much I can justify their arrogance. Show me what is so sacred about this thing you love that you tread on people to pursue it. Make me love it too, and once converted, I'll defend you zealously. I'll even look down my nose at people who don't get it. What I can't handle are people who mistake arrogance for skill, just plain old arrogant people. I saw lots of arrogance in this movie, but I don't want to be a chef. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/24 Full Review Chris T This movie's only fault is that it was too far ahead of its time. So closely aligned to the narrative that has won critics over, in 'The Bear', this film takes viewers on a journey of failure, redemption, heartbreak and triumph. Cooper delivered and hopefully the critics will give it another chance, knowing now what the audience desires in the culinary world of cinema. Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com It's all too familiar, too rudimentary, and while the kitchen they're working in is top-of-the-line the meal they ultimately prepare isn't that much better than a Denny's breakfast left under the heat lamps a few minutes too many. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 22, 2016 Full Review Megan Garber The Atlantic Burnt is, to be clear, not a good movie. It is in fact a pretty terrible movie. Jul 22, 2016 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine Mostly, I thought Burnt was ridiculous. And yet I cannot tell a lie. Its familiar beats, comely cast, and lively kitchen montages entertained me. Rated: 2/4 Jun 12, 2016 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Due entirely to his talent and appeal, two hours of Bradley-being-Bradley works and the film will rightly entertain at an acceptable superficial level. Rated: 3/5 Feb 18, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Despite all of the beautiful cuisine and energetic kitchen chaos, “Burnt” is simply a half-baked redemption tale. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Olly Richards NME (New Musical Express) Bradley Cooper plays a deplorable chef in a fatty, undercooked film.
