After the death of her best friend's husband from cancer, spirited Yorkshire housewife Chris Harper (Helen Mirren) hatches a scheme to raise money for a memorial to him. Utilizing a tradition from the hidebound Woman's Institute association, Chris encourages Annie (Julie Walters) and their friends to create a calendar -- with the novel detail of using the middle-aged women of their village as nude models. The idea stuns the husbands and a wary young photographer (Philip Glenister).

A charming, but cliched comedy reminiscent of The Full Monty.

Hap Erstein Atlanta Journal-Constitution An innocent comic exercise, fueled more on charm than titillation. Rated: B Jan 8, 2004 Full Review Andrew Sarris Observer Amiable enough as a frothy entertainment, with darker overtones rendered with emotional effectiveness. Jan 8, 2004 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Although Calendar Girls is resolutely pleasant, the movie never really goes much beyond that. Rated: 2/5 Jan 4, 2004 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens Calendar Girls is a prime example of why Americans appreciate British humor. And in this case, we have the added perk of a tale that once again proves that real life is often funnier than fiction. Nov 7, 2019 Full Review Kaleem Aftab The List The heart of Calendar Girls is ripped from the wall in the hunt for transatlantic audience. Rated: 3/5 Apr 17, 2019 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro It's hard not to feel that the section where the women go to Hollywood and have the clichéd conflict wasn't pandering to potential audiences across the pond a little too much. Molly A cute movie. Kinda disappointed, would of liked to have seen more dancing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/19/22 Full Review Audience Member It's a good fun watch, but I think the storytelling could be tighter. Love that this actually happened! The sense of community is established early on, and holds well throughout the film. A great cast does a brilliant job Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Ticked me to death. Sounds like something me and the girls would do. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review robert p This movie just goes to show how even in later years, the female body is reviered!!!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review steve d Once you get beyond the shock value there isn't much here. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review adam b It was slow at first but when the story started unfolding (no pun intended) it actually became an engaging tale of woman empowerment and friendship. A good watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
