Leslie Felperin Guardian As visual wallpaper it’s serviceable enough, providing a constant backbeat of blam-blam gunshots and explosions, mostly at night. Rated: 3/5 Oct 26, 2024 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Canary Black is recognizable as an action movie but it’s neither thrilling nor dramatic enough to qualify as entertainment. Oct 25, 2024 Full Review John Serba Decider Morel seems content to maintain the genre baseline – a twisty overcomplicated MacGuffin plot interspersed with gunfights, fisticuffs, car chases, and the occasional teensy dab of emotional character development – without innovating on it. Oct 27, 2024 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times For over half of the time, Avery takes down dozens of well-trained, much larger men with an assortment of martial arts moves that would shame Bruce Lee. She never gets so much as a scratch while ducking thousands of rounds of automatic weapons fire. Rated: 2/5 Oct 27, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller InSession Film This predictable spy slogfest barely gets off the ground. Rated: D+ Oct 27, 2024 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania Kate Beckinsale's committed performance isn't enough to elevate this spy action-thriller above mediocrity. Vanessa P SPOILER ALERT: Though the action scenes in this movie are great, the storyline was weak & the actors were flat and one-dimensional. There was no character development, nor was there any time spent developing the love story between the main character & her husband. This leaves the audience very little reason to route for her & her husband (who the entire premise centers around). She almost destroys the entire world & puts humanity at risk for the sake of her husband’s life… only to abandon him when she finds out that he carries the same secret that she’s been carrying. So, a love so deep that she’s willing to kill innocent people, betray her country, & destroy the world, but she can’t forgive him that he has a secret job & didn’t tell her (she was a secret undercover agent for the CIA & didn’t tell him either). Avery came across as cold, mean spirited, & ungrateful in the worst way; very unlikable! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Martin S While many of the action scenes are beautifully staged, the stiff dialogue and slow pace of any moment not involving weapons make this a bit of a slog. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Jelisije J An ok action film that deals with Kate Beckinsale must betray her government agency in order to save her husband life who has been kidnapped by the people who are trying to blackmail her. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Trent M I was done when she repelled down a building in high heel boots Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Rene R It's sad to see that Kate Beckinsale has been relegated to "B" movies. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Joshua W This movie wants to be Mission Impossible so badly it hurts, even down to the self-sacrificing CIA director (who even resembles Alec Baldwin…). Ultimately it’s about a quarter as clever, and the action is comparably half-baked. As a standalone, it’s passable entertainment with a HEAVY suspension of disbelief and tolerance of spy movie tropes (including magic which makes trained CIA security miss point-blank headshots from behind the target despite a completely clear line of sight and no obstruction in a 4v1 situation - that one really took me out of it for a while), but even as a Kate Beckinsale fan, this movie screams “straight to streaming”.
