Alonso Duralde The Advocate In the pantheon of so-bad-you-can’t-tear-away-your-eyes cinematic train wrecks, Can’t Stop the Music is absolutely a must-view. Apr 5, 2022 Full Review Variety Staff Variety The Village People, along with ex-Olympic decathlon champion Bruce Jenner, have a long way to go in the acting stakes. Dec 8, 2007 Full Review Time Out A wretchedly sub-standard score from Jacques Morali and production numbers of exceptional tackiness round things off. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl Carr and Woodward’s screenplay often feels like something produced by an overly self-important student aiming to be the voice of their generation. Rated: 3/10 Jul 30, 2024 Full Review Jim Haynes 5th Freedom (Buffalo) Sometimes, one goes to a movie with very low expectations, but is agreeably surprised when he leaves feeling happy and exhilarated. Such was the case with Can't Stop the Music. May 3, 2023 Full Review Pat M. Kuras Gay Community News (Boston) Can't Stop The Music is a bad, sloppy picture, but it’s a fun kind of bad. S.J. K A terrible movie of the best kind. Tacky, dumb, but spectacularly so. Tries to be a 1930s screwball type of movie but lacks any of the wit or style. But the enthusiasm of the actors make up for it. Set your expectations low and you’ll have fun. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Partly S This movie nicely bookends the end of the 1970s disco era, making it a classic. I saw it with my parents on our summer vacation when a teen, it was hilarious as they are quite conservative and this, of course, stars the Village People. Now, we watch and sing along to it every New Year's Eve. This is a musical, so judging the acting is pointless when it's celebrating song and dance. Can't Stop the Music is an uplifting disco fiesta. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Bill C This is high camp, cheesy hilarious fun from start to finish! How could anyone not love it? It just serves camp and humor all day while making me laugh so hard. Sure it's not got the best plot or writing but if it doesn't lift your spirits then you might be dead inside! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/03/23 Full Review Devon B This was an absolute cringe fest of a film the good thing about this film was the atmospheric 80s visuals and the music. How was something like this even made? Barbera Rush and Bruce Jenner's in the film but not even they can make better. No just no no!!!!!!!!!!!! as the critic would say IT STINKS!!! oh and the main guy played by Steve Guttenberg can't act and comes off sounding more like a young child than a grown man every time he talks just wow!!!!!!!!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Bad - in every sense of the word Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/22 Full Review Audience Member Easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but also funny in parts and the fashion is cheeky. The best characters are the fashion editor, her assistant, and the record label executive; they're performances keep the movie from being a total wash.
