In April 2009, the U.S. containership Maersk Alabama sails toward its destination on a day that seems like any other. Suddenly, Somali pirates race toward the vessel, climb aboard and take everyone hostage. The captain of the ship, Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), looks to protect his crew from the hostile invaders, and their leader, Muse (Barkhad Abdi). The pirates are after millions of dollars, and Phillips must use his wits to make sure everyone survives and returns home safely.

Captain Phillips is one of the most amazing films of the year so far and is driven by incredible performances from Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi. The story, while maybe not 100% accurate, is still amazing, intense and one that you’ll love to see.

Cannot believe it took me so long to see this film, but it was fantastic and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The story is absolutely wild and the depiction in the movie is really intense. Seeing the Seal go to work in this movie was one of my favorite parts and the acting from everyone was superb. When was the last time Tom Hanks made a bad movie?

Exceptionally good. Great pacing and palpable tension from the get go. Hanks is absolutely masterful, particularly in the finale. His portrayal of the affects of shock is quite possibly the best piece of acting I’ve ever seen.

Its great. It had a risk of being slow but keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. Hanks outs on an Oscar worthy performance, especially in a highly emotional scene with an EMT giving him treatment. Barkhad Abdi is also absolutely fantastic in this film. There’s a reason there’s a meme from his improvised moment with Hanks, he’s incredibly intense and his “look at me” me line truly did catch Hanks off guard.
